☼ New Hair Color: Ombre For Spring and Summer ☼

Hello Girls,
I used to always get blonde highlights when I was younger, but it has been years since I've added color to my hair (except the time that I went to get highlights and they weren't even visible hehe). Yesterday, I decided that I needed a change, something to spice up my look. I've always wanted to try the "ombre" style hair, but I was too scared to try it. I think I was scared of change.

Anyhow, I looked at Yelp and some of the salons that I initially called did not have any openings. Finally, after much search, I found Frederick Michael's Salon. The salon is located in Camino del Rio South in San Diego California (on the other side of the freeway from the Mission Valley Mall). The shopping center is small and the salon looks small from the outside; however, it is HUGE! There is a lot of (comfortable) waiting space for you and/or your friends.

I made an appointment with Zach and, to be honest, I was a bit nervous. Fortunately, he made me feel comfortable from the start by explaining to me what he was doing and why he used a particular technique. The other stylists were very friendly and some said bye to me as I was leaving, a gesture that I really appreciate. I like to feel acknowledged as a customer.

The only negative thing about the Salon was that some of the stations where not too organized, you could see food (maruchan soups) on top of their work stations, which made that particular area look a bit unprofessional. However, it is important to note that each person kept their area differently; some super clean and others a bit unorganized. Overall, however, my experience was positive. I definitely see myself returning there. From my understanding, most (if not all) of the stylists rent their booth; therefore, when you call to make an appointment you might find yourself not knowing who to make the appointment with. For that reason, I would really like for the salon to have a webpage so that we, as new clients, can know who the stylists are and make an appointment with the appropriate person.

Hola Chiquillas, 
Cuando era "chica" siempre me hacia rayitos güeros, pero desde hace ya muchos años no le hago nada a mi cabello (excepto esa vez hace que fui a hacerme "rayitos" y ni se notaban jeje). Sin embargo, ayer decidi que necesitaba un cambio; algo que me diera un poco mas de vida, que se mirara diferente. Por mucho tiempo habia deseado hacerme las, ya famosas, mechas californianas que son estilo degradado, pero me daba miedo cambiar. Creo que le tenia miedo al cambio. 

Pero bueno, ayer mismo me puse a buscar en la ya famosa pagina de Yelp y ninguno de los salones que inicialmente llame tenian tiempo disponible. Por fin, despues de mucho buscar, encontre el salon Frederick Michael's Salon. Este salon de belleza esta localizado en Camino del Rios Sur en San Diego California (del otro lado de la autopista 8, enfrente de el centro comercial de Mission Valley). El lugar donde se localiza este salon es un centro "comercial" chiquito. De afuera, el salon de belleza parece ser pequeño pero cuando entras esta ENORME! Hay mucho espacio para que tu y/o tus amigos o acompañantes esperen comodamente. 

Yo hice una cita con Zach. Para serles honesta, estaba un poco nerviosa. Lo bueno fue que el me hiso sentir comoda desde que llegue. Mientras trabajaba en mi pelo me explicaba que era lo que estaba haciendo y por que usaba ciertas tecnicas, lo que me ayudo a sentirme con mas confianza. Los otros estilistas tambien eran muy amables y cuando caminaba hacia la salida, varios de ellos se despidieron, lo cual me agrado. 

Lo único negativo que puedo decir de este salon es que algunas estaciones de trabajo no se miraban muy organizadas. En una podias ver todo amontonado y una sopa maruchan arriba de su estacion de trabajo. Cada estilista mantiene su area de trabajo diferente. Unas estaciones estaban mega limpias, otras mas o menos, y unas mas desorganizadas. Sin embargo, mi experiencia aqui y con este estilista en particular fue buena. Tengo entendido que la mayoría de los estilistas rentan su espacio, así que cuando llamas no sabes ni con quien hacer la cita. Por esa razón me gustaría que el salón tuviera una pagina de internet para poder saber quienes son sus estilistas y así poder hacer una cita sabiendo quien te va a tocar.

For many plus-size women adding colorful pieces to our outfits may seem challenging. We constantly  fear non-neutral and bright colors because we have been made to believe that bright colors over-emphasize "problem" areas. While it is true that black can act as a "camouflage," we can still incorporate bright colors into our wardrobe.

In this case, I used this polka dots top from Target; I added a teal blazer, and finished my outfit with these red bottoms from Torrid. For many of us, leaving black completely can be hard, but remember that you can play around with your pieces to make other colors the focal point of your outfits.

By the way, this outfit will look 100 times better with heels, but I simply wanted to be comfortable that day!

Para muchas chicas agregar color a su guardarropa puede parecer todo un desafío. Por lo general le tememos a los colores vibrantes que no sean neutrales. Por años nos han hecho creer que los colores claros sobre enfatizan nuestras áreas "problemáticas." Aunque es verdad que el color negro puede camuflajear muchas de esas áreas, aun así podemos y debemos incorporar color a nuestro guardarropa.

En el caso del atuendo de hoy, use esta blusa de lunares que compre en Target (la cual aun esta disponible en varias tiendas), le agregue esta blazer de color verde-azulado y termine el atuendo con un pantalon rojo. Recuerden que aunque no podamos dejar el negro por completo, aun así podemos jugar con nuestras piezas para no hacer del negro el color principal de cada atuendo.

Por cierto, este atuendo se miraria mil veces mejor con zapatillas pero la verdad, no tenia ganas de usarlas, quería estar cómoda jejeje.

  

 

#LuckyFABB!: Mint for Spring

The weather here in San Diego has been warming up; however, we can still feel a little bit of a cold breeze. Because of that I decided to pair this pink/coral top with this amazing blazer. This outfit reminds me that spring and summer are just around the corner. 

 Finding a good fitted mint blazer for a plus size body is hard, but I'm extremely happy with this one. You girls need to check it out! It is the right length and the right cut.

El clima aqui en San Diego California ya esta calentando, pero aun así de repente se siente un poco de aire frio. Por eso, decidí ponerme mi blusa rosa/melon y la convine con un saco color menta que me recuerda que la primavera y el verano estan a la vuelta de la esquina. 

Encontrar un saco color menta que funcione bien con mi cuerpo es mega difícil, pero debo confesar que este saco me encanto. A mis lectoras de tallas plus, les recomiendo que vallan por el ya! Es el color corte y largo perfecto.

♥ CFDA Fashion Incubators Media Brunch Event ♥

                                

Last sunday the San Diego Style Bloggers were invited to attended the Fashion Incubator Media Bruch event that featured the ISAORA brand. ISAORA is a men sportswear brand that launched in 2009.  The event was at the rooftop of the W Hotel in San Diego, which has an amazing view of downtown, great architecture, and an amazing interior design.                                                 

The W hotel treated us to some great brunch bites and drinks, and we got to mingle with the ISAORA designers, fellow bloggers, and other guests. I certainly had an amazing time and enjoyed every moment at the W San Diego.

El domingo pasado las chicas de San Diego Style Bloggers fuimos invitadas a un evento para concocer mas sobre la marca ISAORA, la cual es una linea de ropa para caballeros que se lanzo en el 2009. El evento fue en la terraza de el Hotel W San Diego. La vista desde ahi es genial. Se puede ver el centro de San Diego y sus edificios. Aparte, el lugar era muy comodo, amplio y con una arquitectura genial. 

El hotel W se encargo de consentirnos. Tenian pequeños aperitivos y bebidas. En el evento tuvimos la oportunidad de convivir con los diseñadores de ISAORA y con otras bloggers e invitadas. La verdad me diverti muchisimo y disfrute de cada momento en el hotel W. Aparte de conocer mas sobre la marca, me encanto conocer a otras chicas super talentosas.

Shimmer is a local clothing store that sells regular juniors and juniors plus-size clothing. Their regular sized clothes run from a Small to Large and their plus-size clothing run from a 1X to a 3X. Recently, Shimmer also opened their online store, whose inventory is being updated constantly. 

Today I went semi-shopping. I say "semi" because I forgot my debit card :(

Shimmer es una tienda local que recientemente también abrió su tienda en linea. Antes de continuar les cuento que HACEN ENVIOS A TODO EL MUNDO! Muchas de ustedes me han comentado que no tienen acceso a este tipo de ropa allá en Mexico, así que espero que esta información les sirva. Sus tallas "normales"van desde talla chica (Small) a grande (Large) y sus tallas grandes van de talla 1X a 3X. Toda su ropa es considerada para jóvenes así que vienen un poco mas chicas que las tallas "normales." Todo lo que me medí fue en la talla 3x. 

Hoy me medio fui de shopping. Digo que me "medio fui" por que se me olvido mi tarjeta del banco jeje  Así que iba muy limitada, pero de cualquier manera les queria compartir mas sobre las prendas que esta tienda tiene disponible. Su tienda on-line aun no tiene mucha variedad de tallas grandes pero espero que pronto suban mas cosas con picos y colores de primavera. Spiked Top

This top is very simple, but what makes it unique are the spikes that it has on the shoulders.

Esta blusa es super sencilla pero lo que la hace especial son los picos que tiene en el ombro. 

Trendy Colors 

 I really this top. I liked that it was mint, that it had a "pearl" detail, and most of all the "denim" contrast.

Esta blusa me gusto mucho. Me gusto que era color menta, que tenia un detalle de "perlas," y adore el contraste con mezcalina en el cuello y donde van los botones. 

One of the things that I love about Shimmer is that most of their pieces have small details (like the rhinestones on this top) that make the items different. I really liked the color and details of this top; however, I didn't like that it was shorter in the front (at least that was how it fit me hehe).

Una de las cosas que me gusta de muchas de las prendas de esta tienda es que tienen pequeños detalles que las hacen diferentes. Esta blusa me gusto en general, pero como que no me encanto. Creo que fue el hecho de que era mas corta de enfrente. 

Floral Prints

I sooo wanted this top to work. It is perfect for spring!!!!! This top was a bit tight on the bust area, but I looooved the print and style. If you have a Shimmer store near you, I recommend it 100%. It is the perfect spring top! You can tell by all the pictures I took that I really liked it :)

Realmente queria que esta blusa funcionara. Es perfecta para la primavera. Sin embargo, me quedo un poco ajustada en el area del busto, pero me encanto el estilo! Si tienes una tienda Shimmer serca de ti y eres un poco (o mucho) mas delgada que yo, te la recomiendo al 100%. Realmente pueden ver, dado a que tome muchas fotos de esta blusa, que realmente me enamoro  :)

Studs

This red top was very pretty, but it did not fit me at all. It was extremely tight :( I loved the style and the material. What attracted me to it was the peplum and studs. :(

Esta blusa roja me encanto pero me quedo super apretada. Sin embargo, si eres mas delgada que yo, se te miraria genial. Lo que me atrajo a ella fue el estilo "peplum" y los "Studs" dorados. :(

Animal Print

I fell in love with this pink animal print top. I forgot to take a picture of the back, but it has black lace, which made the back see-thru. This top fit me perfectly, except in the front area where it opened up (this is a recurrent problem for me in most tops). I'm planning on going back for it. When I do, I plan on just adding a safety pin. Remember: DON'T BE AFRAID TO MAKE MODIFICATIONS. Sometimes, a small change/addition can make a piece work perfectly!

Me encamore de esta blusa rosa de "animal print." Se me olvido tomarle una foto a la parte de atras pero tiene encaje en toda la espalda. Esta blusa me quedo perfecta, excepto por ese detallito de enfrente donde se abre un poco en el area del busto (este es un problema recurrente para mi jeje). Estoy planeando en regresar por ella. Cuando lo haga le pondre un segurito para solucionar ese problemita. Acuerdense que aveces tenemos que hacer pequeñas modificaciones/adiciones para que las prendas funcionen. Que no les de miedo! 

 Awesome Fitted White Jeans

These Jeans are AMAZING! They are by a brand called Wax Jeans, which is sold at Shimmer. I don't know about you, but it is really hard for me to find well-fitted jeans in any color, but especially white. I think I haven't had a pair of white jeans in more than five years. These jeans are super comfortable, stretchy, they mold to your body, and they do not feel cheap. They retail for $23.99. I had to get them. I can't wait to wear them out.

Estos jeans son INCREIBLES! Son de una marca llamada Wax Jeans, la cual es vendida en las tiendas Shimmer. No se ustedes pero es muy difícil para mi encontrar pantalones de cualquier color, pero en especial blancos, que se ajusten perfectamente a mi cuerpo. Creo que no he comprado/usado jeans blancos desde hace mas de cinco años. Estos jeans son súper cómodos, son súper stretch, se amoldan a tus "curvas," y no se sienten baratos. Su precio también me encanto. Solo cuestan $23.99 y por eso los tuve que comprar. Ya quiero usarlos!
